Chelsea news: Wilson transfer rumours rubbished because of Morata | Football | Sport

That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundit Alejandro Moreno.

The Blues have been linked with the Bournemouth striker by the Daily Mirror following his excellent start to the season.

With the Cherries sat high in sixth, Wilson is their top goalscorer with seven strikes – having also added four assists.

The 26-year-old is the highest-producing English striker at the moment leading to calls for Gareth Southgate to hand him a place in the Three Lions squad he is to name later today.

The report claims that Chelsea have regularly scouted Wilson this season and could even make their move for the front-man in the winter window.

Question marks were raised over both Morata and Olivier Giroud earlier this season but the former now has five goals in 10 Premier League games having scored a brace against Crystal Palace last weekend.

With four in his last four, it has been suggested the former Real Madrid may finally be finding the form that prompted the London club to splash out up to £70million on him over a year ago.

And Morata recently told the Guardian that after his mental struggles last term, he has “finally found the right way”.

As such Moreno believes because the Spaniard is beginning to produce the goods, Chelsea do not need to look to the in-form Wilson.

Assessing the reports of Chelsea’s interest, Moreno said on ESPN FC: “Two or three weeks ago I would have said, ‘Bring anybody to Chelsea! Anybody, just open the door and say come on down, we don’t have anybody that can score goals’.

“But my boy Alvaro Morata, somehow out of the dead, has come back and the prayers have been answered. He’s been scoring goals, he’s looked good.

“I don’t think there is a need for Callum Wilson to go to Chelsea. And if he does, it would be not on a starting role – it’d be coming off the bench.

“If you’re Bournemouth you’ve got to be careful with this as well. You need a player like him.

“Chelsea can put a player like Callum Wilson on the bench, I don’t think Bournemouth can do that. So I’m going to say this is a miss.”

Morata has been left behind from Chelsea’s trip to Belarus to face BATE Borisov in the Europa League tonight (5.55pm) with Maurizio Sarri keen to hand him a rest.

The manager revealed when asked if the striker is injured: “No. He played three matches in a row, so I thought it was better for him to stay in Cobham to rest and to have two good training sessions.”
