Aquaman sees the underwater hero Arthur Curry returning to his home city of Atlantis to stop a war on Earth.
With Jason Momoa, the actor made famous by his role as Game of Thrones’ Kahl Drogo, in the titular role, Warner Bros has high hopes for this movie.
Based on the DC Comics hero, the studio is setting its sights on a big success, hoping to replicate the accolades garnered by Wonder Woman.

The official plot synopsis of Aquaman reads: “Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and be a hero to the world.”
The Aquaman trailer begins with backstory exposition, introducing us to baby Arthur Curry, born of the land and the sea between a lighthouse keeper and the Queen of Atlantis (Temuera Morrison and Nicole Kidman).
Fast forward to a grown-up Arthur Curry, played by Jason Momoa, in an Indiana Jones-like scene with Mera (Amber Heard).
A few moments of humour dot the beginning of the trailer, but the remaining four minutes are more a glimpse into the underwater world created by director James Wan than anything else.
Aquaman: Willem Dafoe plays Vulko in the new Aquaman film
Aquaman: King Neerus is played by Dolph Lundgren
Further exposition comes in the form of narration by the hologram King of Atlantis (Dolph Lundgren).
The King gives Arthur instructions on how to unite the underwater kingdoms.
His and Mera’s task is to find the ancient trident, and simultaneously prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.
Meanwhile, below the surface, Curry’s half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) is plotting a war against the land.
Aquaman: Black Manta is based heavily on the DC Comic and played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
Aquaman: King Orm, Aquaman’s half brother, is played by Patrick Wilson in the movie
An interlude featuring Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) occurs, but the trailer provides no real explanation into how he fits with the rest of the plot.
Aquaman is directed by James Wan, from a script by screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall, from a story by Geoff Johns, Wan and Beall.
It is Arthur’s task to defeat both Black Manta and then his half-brother King Orm to restore peace to the above ground and underwater worlds.
Aquaman is out in cinemas on December 14, 2018.
